Khonsu was the son of
Amun according to the myths of the Theban
triad. His temple, south of the Temple of Amun, is
in good condition. It is however not considered to
be of the best artistic quality, but the upside is
that you are quite likely to have the entire
temple to yourself.
The temple was built by the pharaohs Ramses
3 and 4.
Many of its wall decorations show the priest
Herihor, who became the effective ruler of Upper
Egypt following the move of the relocation of the
capital to northern Egypt. There are also
some decorations showing a successor, the priest
Pinundjem.
